Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to upload any photos from this weekend and last nights (Tuesday's) extravaganza, so I will have to fill you in later this week. But let's just say my dreams came true! I received an email from one of my favorite places on earth...I will let you take a guess, I was invited with a guest to attend the opening and I CAN NOT WAIT to work with them. I will save the rest for the upcoming post with many pictures documenting the night! I was so grateful and I am really excited to let you guys in on the secret cuz you will get to benefit too!

Anyway, on to the outfit post. I received these shoes for my birthday from one ofmy best friends except they were a size 9..sigh...since I have ginormous feet I had to go back and exchange them which took approximately 29 days to do..I then kept them in a bag in my room for 3 months! ughhh I need to get rid of stuff, did I mention that? Anyway, I love them..I can not wait to style these babies. Oh and can you believe all of these shopping carts? haha we had fun...and so did the guys that worked at Smiths...we noticed they were watching me almost break my face on these babies about 1/2 way throughout the shoot haha
P.S. Thanks for all of the love for Nav and the blog love..it was a lot of fun getting to know her and I really enjoyed meeting some of her followers..I just might have to do that more! I really love you guys...so thank you!

I promised I would show some pics..I wish I had some better ones but this is what I had to work with. Please disregard the Hanukkah table cloth! haha it was the only plastic one I had...we tried this out a couple of weeks ago! I labeled this post DIY cuz you can do it yourself..and it really was easy and so worth it! We got the two that you see above, the leopard, the glitter gold, blue and one more I can't remember. Some did the whole hand some did one finger. I think they look great! And they lasted like 2 weeks! All that really happened was that my nail grew, but it held up better than the polish! Which by the way Wet'n'Wild colors are great and so cheap!

The Sally Hansen strips come with a small file that you use to file away the strip from your nail. We will be doing this again and I will post a play by play...but for now, I recommend these! I will be trying it on my toes too! A bright color with a pattern is so fun and just enough to give you some edge! We got sooo many compliments after we did this! If you guys try this or have tried it please share it on my facebook would love to hear any new ideas on how to use these awesome strips, which by the way...DRY OUT once you open the package so use them wisely ;O)
P.S.
If anyone else is on Pinterest let me know so when I start pinning your blogs!!!oh and don't forget to check out the Thrifters Anonymous Posts if you haven't. You can  link up all week starting every Monday! Thank you again for all of your support..I have also encouraged everyone to show me their finds on my facebook page if you don't have a blog some of you already have which is sooo awesome!! thank you!

Spreading Some Blog Love...

I know what you are thinking..."that isn't Shana" nope...it's the lovely Sonia Garaha (Nav) from Navlandandstyle. About 3 weeks ago Sonia contacted me and wanted to feature me on her blog series. I was definitely excited and humbled to be asked. She often tells me that I inspire her which boggles my mind seeing as I never thought anyone would be inspired by ME?? She later sent me some great questions to be answered. If you wanna check out my answers and meet Miss Nav herself you can check it out HERE.

She also answered the questions below! Everyone meet Sonia! We have quite a few things in common, and I am always telling her to go with her heart, remember that her parents and family love her and that things WILL be ok..She has an inspirational love story for those who are faced with negativity from family and friends...so it is a must read...Love this girl...so read below, get to know her, and then go and check her out!
1.) When and why did you start your blog?

If you look at my very first post it was about positive things that happened in my day - or things I am grateful for. I was going through a really tough phase in my life at the time - (Well I still am). Here is a bit of background story - just bare with me it will all make sense after this paragraph.

As some of you might know, I am East Indian trying to get married to a Canadian guy (it is shunned in my family to marry outside of the culture and especially more if you are a girl - sad I know!). Ryan and I were going to college together and started as friends for a year. At the time, I got dumped by a East-Indian boyfriend who cheated on me with my best friend. That was hard! Long story short, Ryan supported me through such a hard time and he asked me out. I said no at first thinking my parents would never accept it. But my gut was saying to say yes because he was the right thing for me!

Three years later, Ryan and his family came home to ask for my hand in marriage (that's how it is done traditionally in India) and it didn't go too well. Dad didn't say no but didn't say yes either. I knew I COULD NOT live without this guy. But I respect my parents too and I was going crazy trying to handle everything in my little head. As I was going through such hard time at home, I started blogging as an online journal, jotting down things I am grateful for everyday. One day, one style blogger commented on my posts and I visited her blog and one thing led to another.

The NavlandStyle blog was born and now I LOVE BLOGGING about my outfit posts and discovering my own personal style and life in general. It has brought awesome changes in my life and I am not stopping anytime soon. I hope to bring you what is new in my life for as long as I can.

2.) Where do you get a lot of your fashion inspiration from?

I get fashion inspiration from my culture mostly. East-Indian culture, we wear lots of colors (I am sure you notice that in our weddings).
I wear color-blocking traditional outfits every Sunday as I visit temple. I also like to read InStyle magazine lately, Harper's bazaar books, love to get inspired from nature and OF COURSE, Other style bloggers like Shana (from Color Blind), I love her outfit posts and the commitment she shows to her blog is applaud-worthy :) So glad to know you girl! :)

3.) What does a typical Sunday afternoon look like for you?

Typical Sunday - every Sunday is different for me. But most of the time, you can find me at home - cleaning my room, grocery shopping, cooking and packing lunches for the next week, planning my Monday outfit, catching up on my magazines and BLOGGING. Some Sundays when I am not at home - I am visiting friends, catching a movie or meeting someone over coffee.

4.) Do you find blogging challenging? How do you organize your time to find time to post outfit posts every day?

Blogging is a stress-reliever for me. I make time time for it, because it makes me feel good about myself. I don't post my outfit posts the day I wear them- call it cheating if you will, but it works for me. I am also trying to create some guest bloggers posting if I am away for a certain period of time now.

5.) What are your goals for 2011, bloggy or otherwise?

Personal Goals: 1) Upgrade to a higher-level job in following my passion to work with multicultural groups.
 2) Get married - get started on planning both Indian and Canadian wedding - keeping both parties (his fam and my family) interests balanced
 3) Help Ryan get started on his career.
Bloggy Goals: 1) Keep doing what I love and hopefully inspire few people along the way.
 2) To share with the world few things that I know and learn lots from other bloggers!
 3) I also want to grow more readership.
 4) I want to start a "Wedding Planning Series" and a "Cooking series"
 5) I also want to create my blog more user-friendly and visually appealing. I am still trying to learn how to make buttons. If anyone knows any great IT bloggers, please pass their web address to me. I would LOVE you forever!

Love, Nav

Yesterday was our first Thrifters Anonymous meeting. We had two hours to find our finds and get checked out...we were able to shop early before the public today...and let me tell you it was amazing and stressful at the same time. My receipt looked like a scroll and I left with 3 bags of amazingness. Pics will be coming soon, can't wait to share! This morning I am going through my closet to get rid of quite a few items..not because I don't like them but because I need room for new things...so stay tuned cuz you will have an opportunity to shop my closet since I can't officially part with anything..I figured I could find another home for them and make a few bucks to fund future purchases.

I also have really exciting news that I can not wait to share with everyone! Tomorrow night I was invited to a special place and will have some presents for YOU guys. I will post pics on Wednesday as the event is tomorrow! Ok that is all I can say...haha

I have also decided that these wedges officially go with everything. I even feel like a different person in them...don't you love it when clothes or shoes make you feel confident or edgy...hence the 2 pairs of shoes.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day as we say thank you to all who are fighting for our country and our freedom...brother in law is our hero..Happy Birthday brother!

Just wanted to share a sneak peek into my mission for sister night. We were going to paint our nails and use the Sally Hansen strips...I found these nail polishes for $1.99 so I wanted to try them out...read some mags for some inspiration, and picked up some $.99 lip liner.
On a side note..I had a dream of mom again last night..maybe it was that I was thinking about her, maybe it was because I attended one of my best friends baby naming at temple last night..or maybe she was trying to tell me something. I am not quite sure...but I woke up with a smile...it always ends with her feeling pain somewhere, but I felt like I got to hang out with her..is that creepy? Does anyone else have these dreams? Anyway, excited for the 3 day weekend, a dear friend is getting married today and I am so honored to be doing her hair! Will post pics of our nails and sister night tomorrow!

Have a great Saturday!
