One Room Challenge Week 4: Building Cabinets from SCRATCH & My budget!

VISIT the other BLOGGERS & see how much more progress they have made than me haha they are so inpiring you guys!

We are at the half way mark and while I have most of the large items found and curated and patiently awaiting my paint samples and wall paper samples..I HAVE so much to ACTUALY do...if you saw my checklist from last week then you saw I don't have much done. Finding the time is my issue but hey isn't that why I started this challenge to begin with? Yep. SO
#TEAMNOSLEEP it is haha but man I am finding this process somewhat cathartic and relaxing among the chaos.
So prioritizing some of the big projects and possible outsourcing some as well if it fits into my budget. Yep, if you missed it I have a budget. I gave myself $1,500 for this room. It actually is not a lot but since I knew I would be thrifting & re purposing some of the major items I knew I could make it happen. Here is where we are now and then we will move on to the progress that was made this week!

Isn't it crazy how quickly you can spend haha I mean I didn't opt for the $5,000 sleeper I originally wanted, so technically I am doing really well. Sadly I STILL have to pay for the paint, supplies for the wallpaper AND the wallpaper haha oh crap and the rug and more wood. Ok maybe I will be cutting it close! Do you guys set budgets for each item? Let me see if I can really quick:

RUG: I don't want to spend more than $300 so that will be interesting but maybe I can take advantage of the Memorial Day Sale

PAINT: Well if I go with Benjamin Moore I think I can get away with maybe $150 , & I have some special sponsors for some of the supplies but I need a spray gun and some rollers so maybe another $100

WALLPAPER: This is going to be pricey..I emailed Milton & King the company I ordered samples from and well it will cost at minimum $250 but so worth it
Lighting: I need to buy sconces for the top of the built ins and I don't want to spend more than $150 total I know this will be hard, I also want to have some for the walls and possibly the closet nook to add some lighting so another $100

NEW MATTRESS: SO this isn't crucial for the completion but if I want anyone to sleep on that vintage sofa I need to buy a new one so $300 there CRAP haha

WOOD & MOLDING: This is going to cost at least another $150

That is $1350 guys haha and I only have & $650 left. I never thought about trying to get a sponsor for this but maybe I should haha Any ideas welcome!!

SO Here is my update for the week! The hubby buckled down and went for it! The cabinets were not easy since he had NEVER done it before and well I had no clue haha I'm just over here with all the ideas! We talked it out and began in our non landscaped backyard which by the way IS ALSO happening will share more later on that.
Do you like our make shift station? Since we got nothin in the backyard it kind of helps. We added a thick piece of foam from lowes that helps as a base for the cutting and setting up and began to piece it together. Time lapse on my INSTAGRAM and more updates!

I would totally explain what is going on here in like building terms but honestly I have not clue that is why I was inside working on my re upholstering of an ottoman and wallpaper samples haha

Looks legit right? haha I like how he is smoking a cigar haha he is gonna hate me for this blog post. haha

Zevy helped a bit haha he can fit which means the cabinet will be big enough haha We totally could have bought one made already but he insisted on building it from scratch! No HACKS so yeah haha

He said it took about 4 hours but with interruptions

So we have to remove the base boards still and start the bookshelves...We also realized that we need to make a frame since it is SOO close to the wall that way we can open the cabinet without totally hitting the wall. All part of the learning. But I am excited. I am already inspired by the room just by moving the antique desk in.

I worked in there last night and I was already happy! Crazy how inspiring your space can be when it is something you love and create.

Stay tuned next week for more progress & HELP choosing the final Wallpaper & possibly paint for the built ins and the walls!! I got a lot to do..but if you know me...I work well under pressure!

Till next week!

One Room Challenge Week 3: Thrifting for my room!

Happy Thursday friends!

I have been WAITING for this post for like 3 months now. haha all the other participants are posting their painting progress, demolishing progress haha and I am over like hey guys!! I did all my shopping! but here we are!

Just a quick recap..I entered this challenge back in January when we found out we were pregnant with our 2nd. I was going to design the nursery & I was so excited!! Sadly we lost the baby in February & decided that we would still try for a 2nd so I was going to create a new office for myself and my hubby. A space that not only we can get creative, get some work done but have guests over or catch a quick nap! I know most of the particpants are designers or aspiring designers so THRIFTING isn't exactly what they are doing for most of their pieces but I had to stay true to ME...don't get me wrong I have some items coming in but most of the pieces will either be from my home, from family antiques etc or a new find! SO... Back in February I began searching for inspiration and some of the items that I really needed!

See my things to buy list below!

As you can see I have checked off quite a bit haha as a matter of fact the only thing I have really done and DONE well I might add is SHOP haha more like thrift. If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen back in February I found THIS desk! I mentioned it last week in WEEK 2 progress but I found it at one of my favorite antique stores in Vegas....Not Just Antiques. You guys have heard me speak about it so much on Thrifters Anonymous Youtube Channel but I got quite a bit from there!

This vintage English Writing Table caught my eye & Instantly knew it would be perfect for this office! It has kind of guided me in how I wanted this room to feel...you know what I mean..like classy and moddy & a little boujie. I found something similar online for over $2,000 and I paid $200 at Not Just Antiques! SCORE! Check out my instagram I will be posting the video I filmed of me finding the desk with Edwina and picking it up!!!

Next up was a sleeper sofa. you guys I almost...ALMOST paid $5,000 for this green custom made sofa ...I LOVE IT.... BUT then reality set in and I want a backyard & not to spend $5,000 on a sofa I decided to search Facebook Marketplace!

It was slim pickings for a NEW Sleeper SOFA that wasn't ugly or looked totally used...Leather was almost impossible and GREEN leather was non existent. I search for like 3 weeks until I saw this one...

I know...it is NOT green and IT Isn't a Chesterfield haha and it IS NOT leather either. It was $150 you guys and literally had never been used. My excitement of how new it was and cheap it was took over and I got the well might as well buy it it is so cheap I can make it work feeling and got home. I even made a mood board with it haha I know.
I didn't love it...but whatever...it was also too big...THEN...an alert came on my phone and THIS popped up on facebook marketplace....

I almost missed my exit as I was on my way to a really bug meeting and I freaked out. THIS COUCH spoke to me. It resembled a vase I remember my mom having in her flower shop growing up. you guys...this couch was gorgeous and then I saw SHE WAS A SLEEPER!!!!!!!! A Vintage, Boho, Chic, Vintage SLEEPER for wait for it
.
.
$100
. Yep not $5,000 but $100....
So I did what any normal Thrift ADDICT would do.
I told the girl I want it SAVE it for me I will be there tonight. haha

She told me that a lady from LA was gonna drive down and pay her $500 for it...Thank you to my dad who grabbed his trailer and ran to this womens house to grab it! It was in PERFECT condition like never been used even the sleeper was new though I need to buy a new mattress crap...I need to add that to my list! to make it more comfortable!
Next up we have some items from Vintage Market Days a last minute run prior to closing...like 30 minutes prior to closing I grabbed these Corbels! They are gorgeous and I immediately knew that I wanted to use them in this space! The two crown moldings are from there as well as some of the vintage books, vintage pillow made out of vintage material and some brass!

Lastly I needed some office chairs..I wanted it to be green leather since I really want to pull that color in but that was also hard. This one is over $600 haha

So...I saw these ones on Facebook Marketplace!
These popped up at $50 a piece and I knew they would be perfect!

I went there for one...and then when I got it I decided I needed the other one and shared it and you guys voted!!! and went and got it the next day! Don't worry I don't think I will be painting these green I did think about it though  haha I didn't know one of them had an arm that was broken so just need to repair it but they are really nice! Traditional and classic just what I needed! They fit right under the desks as well!

Lastly I went to Goodwill as well and FOUND this beautiful Korean Tea Table...I asked if I should get it and you guys voted yes and also I asked what I should do with it...make it art or make it a taller table! Here are the votes...what do you guys think!

As you can see it was close...what do you guys think I should do with it?

In addition to thrifting I am also shopping my home...I have some fun projects coming but until then I am going to bring the light I got from West Elm a few years ago in our future nursery into this space. What do you think?

I think it will add some modern and I like the gold which will go perfectly with this mirror that Edwina and I found on Storage Wars! I never wanted to sell it and Edwina knew that haha in the end we decided I would bring it home so I am thinking above the couch? thoughts?
A little Vintage Hollywood Regency for ya? haha I know I mix more styles than anyone should but that is ME haha so yeah

So Just wanted to share some of the shopping process and how my mind was working! Since reveal day is still like 5 weeks away I will keep some of the details secret from my trips but wanted to share some of the major pieces that you will be seeing a lot more of!!

NEXT week I will have quite a bit to share so some of it will probably get leaked on Instagram cuz I won't be able to contain my excitement! I also need your help and votes on items so
KEEP EM COMING!!!
See you next Thursday!

One Room Challenge WEEK 2: Inspiration meets Reality, To build a built in

Cory Connor Designs

Hi friends~! Welcome back...see I told you I was going to do this! We are in the thick of WEEK 2 of the One Room Challenge & it has been a tough week. It has been so inspiring watching all the other participants!!

Just to fill you in briefly and for those who have followed me on here and my youtube...our Sampson 13 1/2 year old lab is not doing well. It was Mother's Day this past weekend and I we almost had to say goodbye to him...I re-scheduled it 3 times & needless to say I am a mess along with the room for this challenge. Special thank you to my hubby who has been so amazing through this. If you know me you know my animals are like my oxygen, my relief...but I know that he is hanging on for me...will keep you all posted but we are loving on him as much as we can!

SO. This past week despite all that is going on...WE ARE GETTING A LOT DONE! But first. Here is a BEFORE of the state of our old Guest Bedroom.../ just put it in the front room room haha It has been a dumping stating this past 6 months and I can't wait to fix that!

As you can see the room is not very big. It is average size with a closet and private hallway to the bathroom..which I hope to revamp soon as well! We added wood flooring about 5 years ago the hubby wanted this dark color...but since this was his office I just let him do what he wanted! I actually have grown to love it..and if you know me I like everything that ISN'T on trend and that is fine by me!

AHHH I know...haha THIS IS GONNA BE A GOOD BEFORE AND AFTER haha

The hubby doesn't know but this CEILING fan HAS GOT TO go so I will be replacing it with the sputnik light from West Elm in my MoodBoard that is currently upstairs! Re-Purpose CHECK! As you can see there is a closet there and I have some major plans fort that as well! but today we are going to focus on the other side of the room!

So now for the FIRST big project in this room. See this window? So I envision built ins surrounding it. To give you an idea it is best to show you some of my inspiration pictures I found so you can visualize!

So this was one of my favorites to visualize. and while I would LOVE a window seat there just isn't enough room in this room for all I want to do in here haha So the Vintage English Desk I picked up at our favorite antique store Not Just Antiques here in town where our Storage Wars goodies lived will go in front of the window...I have a fun video I filmed of me finding it make sure you are following me on Instagram there will be a highlight of it on my stories and on each side will be the built ins to hold all of our antiques, collectibles & pieces from our travels! Our collection of books will be included but I think I am going to carry it along the top as well like the built ins below from Plank & Pillow...and they don't know it but I am using their DIY to create it!!! You will have to check it out very helpful haha

If you follow me on Instagram I am posting to my stories and highlights my travels and the process so check it out! The hubby and I went to Peterman Lumber to pick up some wood. I had never been there and OH MY GOODNESS. Did you know how many types of wood there is? I mean seriously. Also...did you know that there is a HUGE shortage of wood right now? Stuck on ships they are were literally out! and why didn't we go to Home Depot or Lowes? Well we wanted to use a Baltic Burch for this piece and they don't have it!

They didn't have the longer sheets so I believe these were the 5X5's and ummm They were $43 a PIECE! To put it into perspective this time last year they were like $24 yeah...so we got 5 sheets for a total of $233. I still think this will be cheaper than hiring someone but we will see how the hubby and I work out haha I am HORRIBLE when it comes to calculating ANYTHING..like bad but he is AMAZING so together we make a great team haha mostly him doing the calculating and me saying I want this and I want that

We decided to wait to come back for the rest of the room ideas I have and focus on this one project. So it was time to load the wood..and as you can see it almost didn't fit!

We made it work!

We didn't care too much about the color since I will be painting this built in...my issue is I can not decide on the freaking color...and I am also torn because I want to pain the room this color as well like really moody...but it is so small with one window...So here is where I really need your help friends!!
THIS is my Sleeper Couch that Purchased on Facebook Marketplace for $100 almost new from the 70's haha I LOVE IT...

So this couch will sit on the wall to the left of the window side. I was so inspired by the CLARE paint samples and colors I ordered a bunch! Not sponsored just thought it was so cool and loved the idea that the samples then peel and stick on your wall!

I grabbed a few others for some projects I am doing but umm haha the blue hue haha so many...Some are pulling a little too green and some even purple...
So yeah...I am torn. I like the darker blues but not too dark...and not too light...The one that I am liking is this one called HYPERLINK a rich, royal blue. So head over to my instagram today if you can and VOTE in my stories or send me some ideas...help haha I am open to all ideas and would love any and all advice and inspo!

Ok friends! That is all for this week! So much will be getting done this week and this weekend so make sure you are following me on Instagram and HELP a girl out!! till next week!

xoxo,

Shana
